Chaoter 14 -Gary and Libby

Garys POV.

"God damn you Libby, You stupid girl!" I hiss, slamming the palm of my hand down on the white linen sheets. My head is spinning and i cant see through the tears. Everything was fine. Everything was fucking perfect. And now this. This. Fucking mess!
"Libby, wake up! For fucks sake wake up!" I gaze down at the black and blue body lying in front of me as i stand at the foot of the bed. Ill kill that fucking driver. If they ever let me see him that is, theyve kept him well away from me so far. What the fuck was he doing driving like that?! Ill fucking kill him. Ten times over.
"Libby please." I beg again, moving around to the side of the bed and taking her hand, the only part of her that seems still in tact. "Please." I drop my face into my hand and screw my eyes shut as tightly as i can, in hope that maybe when i open them i wont be here. Ill be lying in bed, with Libby and Ethan because this is just some fucked up awful nightmare. But Im not. Im still here. Gazing at my wife, covered in purple bruises and an oxygen mask because she cant fucking breathe for herself. She was fucking laughing two hours ago.
"Fucks sake!"

Libbys POV

Gary stop swearing. Please stop swearing Gary. Its not good for Ethan to hear you swearing.
Where am i? I want to cry. But i cant. I want to shout. But i cant. I cant do anything.
Gary. Garys here though, hes with me. Like he always is.

Wake up Libby. Come on, Wake up!

Garys POV.

"Libby please!" I sob again, pressing the palm of her hand against my cheek. "For me."
"Mr Barlow?"
I spin round as i hear a voice in the door way.
"A word please?" A tall, brunette nurse stands in the doorway. I nod quickly and clamber clumsily to my feet before following the nurse out into the corridor.
"Yes?" I breathe. "Any news?"
"Your wifes condition has improved massively Mr Barlow." The brunette smiles encouragingly. "The doctors have put her into a medically induced coma and they want to try and bring her round."
"Thats good right?"
"Its wonderful news Mr Barlow. Your wife is expected to make a full recovery once shes awake, there are no signs of brain damage and the internal bleeding was stopped with minimal damage. She got away lightly if you dont mind be saying sir."
"A-and the baby?" I push the words out and immediately fear the answer, but i already know it. Deep down i know the answer. The brunettes mouth stiffens into a hard line.
"Mr Barlow, your wife had to be anaesthetised in order for the surgery to take place, the doctors had no choice. Your wife would have died sir. Im sorry, there was no way..."
"Ye." I swallow quickly. "Ye. Ye. Ok." I nod, wiping my hand across my face and turning back to Libbys room where two doctors are standing over her.
"Mr Barlow." The nurse places a manicured hand against my elbow.
"Mmh?"
"This is for the best Sir."
"I know." I swallow quickly. Why wont they hurry up in there? I know this one is only here to keep me out of the way whilst they do what they need to do.
"You have a child dont you?" The brunette smiles kindly.
"Yea." I nod, but im not really paying attention. "Ye a little boy, Ethan."
"Thats a lovely nam-"
"Look," I turn sharply to the tall nurse, "Forgive me, but im not in the mood for social chit-chat if you dont mind me saying. Id like to see my wife, i want to be there when she wakes up because i need to tell her whats happened. Or are you going to do that? Are you going to tell her shes lost her baby and watch her heart break?" I hiss. The brunette swallows nervously and guesters towards the plastic wood door as two doctors walk out, passing me an encouraging smile as they go.

Libbys POV.

Garys here. Hes holding my hand, like he always does when he watches me sleep.
"Lib." He breathes, i can feel his breathe against my neck. "Im here okay, wake up. For me."
Come on Libby. I will myself, and with every last ounce of energy i have, i force my eyes open.
"Lib?!" Garys voice becomes more and more urgent as my vision comes more and more into focus. "Libby! Youre awake!"
I open my mouth, but i have no energy to speak.
"Oh God, Libby!"
I watch as Garys face splits into a painful kind of grin, tears welling in his beautiful green eyes. Theyre red already and he looks exhausted. Hes been crying. A lot. Wheres Ethan?! Panic suddenly spikes in my throat.
"Its okay." Gary soothes with a gentle smile. "Ethans with my mum, shes at home with him okay. Youre in a hospital in the city centre, there was this fucking stupid driver, ill kill him Lib."
I smile slowly. Its nice hearing his voice and seeing his face at the same time. I want to sit up. Its not good for the baby if i lie on my back. The baby.
"Gary." I croak, bringing a hand to my stomach.
"Oh Lib..."
No. No.
"Baby, im sorry." Gary shakes his head slowly as the tears begin to roll down his cheeks. I shake my head in disbelief.
"Lib there was no way. You had to have surgery."
Im going to be sick. This is all my fault.
"Oh God." I wail because its all i can manage as tears cascade down my cheeks, "God No!" Despite the pain, i roll onto my side and curl into a ball, my body shaking hysterically as the wrack my core. "Im sorry!" I wail into the pillow and i dont know if anybody can hear me. "Im so sorry."
"Hey. Hey no!"
I feel Garys hands on my shoulders as he pulls be gently to a sitting position and against his chest.
"Shush Libby. Its not your fault ok?!"
"Im sorry!" I sob again, soaking the t-shirt clinging to Garys firm chest. "Im sorry Gary!"
"Libb stop!" Gary begs against the top of my head. "Stop it!"
I want to wrap my arms around him and hold him, but i cant. I dont have the energy. "Im sorry." I choke again, before my world returns to darkness.

Chapter 65 -Gary and Libby ~ The End.

I shower lazily, stretching muscles i didnt even know i had under the wide head of the chrome rainfall faucet. I lather the peach and mango shower gel into my skin, the aroma making both myself, and our bathroom for the week, smell like the rest of the island. -Luscious and summery. When i turn, allowing the water to splatter against my shoulders and ease the stiffness of the muscles there, a familiar silhouette is shadowing the frosted glass to the shower door. I smile; "Youre not a big fan of privacy, are you?" "With you? Naked? Never." The sleazy reply comes over the sound of the cascade of water and my smile slips into grin. I turn, only to cease the flow of water and the silence that descends is the same quietly charged silence that has become so common between us. "Throw me a towel." "Not a chance," I watch as Gary moves out of sight, away towards the mirrors above the sinks."Come out and get it." "Gary dont be an arse...

Chapter 43 -Gary and Libby

I sit with Luke, and a strong mug of black coffee, around my dining room table, sifting through an uncountable amount of papers. Its getting on for ten and we chat as we work, the reassuring gurgle from Ethans baby monitor lessening the potentially harsh silence each time we fall quiet. "This is obscene." Luke lets out a disgruntled sigh, throwing his Biro down and watching it drown in the sea of documentation. Nodding in agreement, my eyes slipping in and out of focus, my exhaustion gripping me, as i glance up at the clock. 10.07pm  Gary should be back any minute. From whatever gig hes doing tonight. Hes been out so much lately and im sick of being on my own, and so now im sat here, half asleep and working with Luke at ten past ten on a Tuesday. "Maybe we should call it a night?" I offer, quietly eager to get Luke gone so i can go to bed, but right on cue, the baby monitor broadcasts a shrill scream from my sleeping son, preventing me from hearing my desired a...

Chapter 37- Gary and Libby

"Lib.. Libby?.." Im lulled gently from my cocoon of comforting sleep. "Libby.." Reluctantly, my lids draw back to the unwelcome blade of sun slicing through the car window. I squint, confused. Oh. Yeah. "Lib.." Gary carries on, and im half aware hes helping me out of my seat belt. "Come on baby, we're here." I nod in answer, but dont move. I dont want to move. I dont want to ever have to move, because if i do, i know that i have to face up to the darkening reality which lies behind the cold, harsh and unwelcoming doors of Manchester Royal Infirmary. "Im scared." "I know baby, come on." Gary brings the back of my hand to his lips briefly in a comforting gesture before slipping out of the car. I watch in the rear-view mirror as he makes his way hurriedly round to my door and swings it open. I dont move. "Libby." Lowering my gaze, i begin to chip off flakes of the newly applied red nail varnish, flicking it d...
